Randy Smith Classic Qualifier Results - KCBD NewsChannel 11 Lubbock

LUBBOCK, Texas - Cade Storey of Dallas finished on top of the Boys Division with a 1-under-par 71 in the K¹² Qualifier for the Randy Smith Classic presented by the Lubbock Sports Authority at The Rawls Course at Texas Tech University. Grace Choi, also of Dallas, medaled in the Girls Division, carding a 1-over-par 73.      
         
Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the K¹² Qualifier for the Randy Smith Classic presented by the Lubbock Sports Authority was an 18-hole stroke play event held at the The Rawls Course at Texas Tech University. The tournament field featured 39 boys and six girls, ages 12-18, from six states, Philippines and Canada. The Boys Division played the par-72 course at 7,019 yards, while the Girls Division played the course at 6,231 yards. K¹² Qualifiers give juniors an opportunity to "play their way in" to coinciding AJGA Open tournaments or earn a Tournament Exemption or Performance Star for a future event. The K¹² Qualifier Series offers opportunities for AJGA juniors at approximately 50 AJGA Open events. 
         
Storey started the day with a birdie on No. 2, his first hole of the shotgun start. He birdied four more holes during the K¹² Qualifier to lead the competition by two strokes. Storey took a Tournament Exemption toward another AJGA event instead of playing in the Randy Smith Classic presented by the Lubbock Sports Authority.
         
"I didn't hit the ball too well, but once I made a few putts I just rallied off that," Storey said. 
         
Chase Griggs of Edmond, Okla., Charles Ewing of Dallas, Alec Heinen of Edmond, Okla., Jeremy LeGuen of Highland Village, Texas, Andrew Cole of Edmond, Okla., Jay Cox of Paris, Texas, Brandon Pederson of Austin, Texas, Conner Thompson of Oklahoma City, Charles Shields of Edmond, Okla., Collin Ward of Amarillo, Texas, Patrick Aldrin Uy of Antipolo, Philippines, Christopher Kim of San Diego, penciled in their spots into Tuesday's field. Jacob Jameson of Lovington, N.M., Preston Standley of Plano, Texas, Juan Gonzalez of McAllen, Texas and Cody Hardison, also of Plano, Texas, qualified for the event but opted to take a Tournament Exemption.
         
Choi's first nine holes proved to be hard on her scorecard, as she bogeyed Nos. 4, 7 and 8, all par-4 holes. Her four birdies, three of which came on the back nine, helped her to take home medalist honors by four strokes, despite double-bogeying her final hole. 
        
"I started making a lot of good putts," Choi said.  "You have to have good course management here.  The greens are really firm and fast, and it helped with the ball rolling really hard in the fairways."
         
Chelsea Bretcher of Austin, Texas finished the event with a 5-over-par 77 and will join Choi on Tuesday to compete in the event. Sammi Stevens of Hereford, Texas, was the final qualifier in the Girls Division, shooting two strokes behind Bretcher with a 7-over-par 79 to finish in third.
