LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Scientists are learning more about how red wine might be beneficial to your health. The key appears to be a polyphenol in red wine, called resveratrol.
Lab studies from Australia indicate resveratrol may protect against cancer, improve heart health, and improve blood supply to cells. Drinking a lot of red wine is not likely to get you those results, though; as researchers say much of the resveratrol found in wine is not absorbed by the body.
However, it's more easily absorbed by the mucous membranes in the mouth, meaning you get more of the health benefits by sipping and swishing slowly, rather than gulping it down.
