Nausea drug appears safe for use in pregnancy

By Cassie Hataway | email

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Most pregnant women know all about morning sickness especially when it comes morning, noon, and night.

Women often do not want to take medication for the nausea for fear that it might have side effects on their growing baby. Now a new study from Israel finds that a drug called Reglan is safe and does not affect the fetus even when taken during the first trimester. Those early weeks of a pregnancy are critical to proper development. The study is based on 80,000 babies born in Israel. Researchers say the more than 3400 babies who had been exposed to Reglan in utero were just as healthy as other babies were.
