The race for District 19 has a new contender, Midland Accountant Mike Conaway announced he will try to succeed Larry Combest in the U.S. House of Representatives. The announcement makes Conaway the 10th person to officially run for the office.
On Wednesday, Conaway told NewsChannel 11 that he makes no qualms about what's important to him and this region. "Obviously, the two main economic engines for District 19 is agriculture and oil and gas, and those things are not at odds with each other. There ought to be a partnership, they share common issues: commodities pricing, environmental issues, that both have to deal with. I don't see them in conflict at all and I see the congressman for the 19th district being able to adequately and fully represent both economic engines for this district."
Conaway is the sixth person from Midland to decide to run. Four others from Lubbock are running.
