LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - It was not your typical noon-time rush hour Thursday at the intersection of 82nd and Indiana. Crews worked for just over two hours to clear the scene of a cement truck accident where drivers literally inched their way through the intersection after the cement truck fell on its side.
Police say the driver had no intention of making a turn. The driver, Edward McDonald, was northbound on Indiana and told LPD he was in the straight away lane when the light turned red. He applied the brakes and the truck slowed down but did not stop. That's when he turned to avoid oncoming traffic and his load shifted which flipped the 1994 White International truck on its right side.
After two failed attempts to try to get the truck back on all four wheels, crews successfully resurrected the vehicle. The scene was cleared at 2 p.m. The truck is registered to A-Rock Materials and they say the vehicle is totaled.
McDonald was taken to UMC with minor injuries and released Thursday afternoon.
