Lubbock Police Light Up Drunk Driving Awareness

A program sponsored by the Lubbock Police Department hopes to prevent drunk driving by increasing awareness. Friday the LPD is asking people to turn their car lights on as a reminder to not drink and drive.

"If you know you are going to drink choose a sober designated driver before you start partying. Take a cab or ask a friend to drive, and one important thing we'd like to remind people, if they see impaired drivers on the road way contact the police department," said Captain Richard Foster.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that in 2000 more than 17,000 people died in alcohol related wrecks.
