Leigh and Nick, Today Show Couple advance to final round

By Katie Bauer - bio | email

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The Today Show couple with Lubbock ties is one step away from winning the all expenses paid wedding live from New York.

We first introduced you to Leigh Daniel and Nick Cordes when they came home to Lubbock last week.

Daniel is a Lubbock native and a former Texas Tech track National Champion.

She may be known as an Ohio resident now, but this Lubbock native and former Texas Tech track star is on her way to winning a race of a different kind.

Leigh Daniel and Nick Cordes are now one of the final two couples on the Today Show, in their annual segment Today Throws a Wedding.

"Up until the minute they called our names, I wasn't 100 percent sure that we were making it on so it was fun but nerve wrecking," said Daniel.

On Wednesday, after being promoted to the final round, the couple participated in a challenge.

"It was a huge surprise, we played family feud today and they ended up surprising us with a couple of family members," said Daniel.

"I was just glad to come out on top because we have been second the two previous competitions and the other couple had won the two previous competitions so we could have fallen behind 3 and 0 to them and that would be embarrassing being competitors we are," said Cordes.

Each week when a couple wins a challenge that couple gets to pick one aspect of the wedding. This week's decision was the cake.

"I picked a chocolate with a butter cream, caramel frosting," said Daniel.

And now the couple is on to the final round. Both Leigh and Nick say they couldn't have done it without the Hub City.

"The support we had in Lubbock definitely was the separator this week being there all the support unfortunately we weren't able to talk to Cleveland much at all since we were down there and you guys picked up the slack 10 fold so it's awesome," said Cordes.

"I really feel like without Lubbock and without Texas Tech that I don't think we would have made it through this round so we appreciate from Lubbock and Tech so if they can just come together just one more week, I really think that we could pull it off, I really do," said Daniel.

Next Wednesday morning, we will find out if Leigh and Nick win it all.  If they do they will be married July 15, live on the Today Show.

In order for that to happen they need your votes.  You can only vote online one time per computer between now and Friday.
