Neighbor says Ledbetter and suspects were friends

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - One man is dead and three suspects are in the Lubbock County Jail after an early morning murder Wednesday.

Investigators say 32-year-old James Ledbetter died from stab wounds in his own home. Lubbock Sheriff's Deputies say there was a party at Ledbetter's house last night in the 6900 block of County Road 6300 near Shallowater, a party that turned deadly. A neighbor of Ledbetter's and kin to one of the suspects says she doesn't understand how something like this could happen.

"I asked the Sheriff what happened, and they said someone's dead over there," says Rosa Garza. She woke up in the middle of the night to flashing lights right outside her house. "It was very upsetting we were all friends and all knew each other," adds Garza.

"When deputies arrived they determined there was a deceased victim," says Major Don Carter with the Lubbock Sheriff's Office. That victim was 32-year-old James Ledbetter, Garza's friend and neighbor. As she walked out to the road, she saw deputies put her sister-in-law, 41-year-old Delia Rios into the back of the patrol car. "I saw her with handcuffs, and her boyfriend was in cuffs. She had a lot of blood on her," says Garza who adds she never thought this would happen in her neighborhood.

Deputies responded to multiple 911 calls around 1:30 Wednesday morning. Investigators determined Ledbetter was hosting a party at his home when a fight broke out. He was stabbed with a knife in his groin area. "The victim sustained a laceration to femoral artery which would cause death in a short period of time," says Major Carter. Garza says her neighbor was a nice man.

Deputies arrested Rios and 38-year-old Armin Tavarez at the scene. Fifty-year-old Albaloro Castillo fled and deputies found him nearby around 10 a.m.

Garza says she wasn't at the party, and doesn't understand why this happened, "it hurts for people to do stuff like this to each other, and I hope things get better," says Garza. At this time, investigators say they are confident all suspects are behind bars. Funeral arrangements for Ledbetter are pending.
