LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - It is only half-way through the year, and Lubbock has already seen the same number of homicides as we had in all of 2008. While that may sound alarming, police say it's a little misleading.

2008 saw the lowest number of homicides in the past five years.  In 2004, Lubbock Police investigated 18 homicide cases.  Authorities reported 12 homicides in 2005, 14 in 2006, and 16 in 2007.

While Lubbock authorities say even one homicide is one too many, they say residents should feel secure that they've identified a suspect in all eight homicides this year. "That's just hard work on the detective's part, but it's also citizens getting involved and passing on information to us," Lubbock Police Sergeant Jimmy Pachall said.

Investigators reported this year's eighth homicide Wednesday, after the victim of a beating at the Koko Inn last month died from his injuries. Authorities arrested 40-year-old Bobby Lee Boone, of Kyle, Texas for the assault.
