Icy Roads Cause Dozens of Wrecks, Two Fatal

Since 3:00 Monday afternoon, Lubbock Police say there have been 63 wrecks. Out of those wrecks, two people died. 10 wrecks involved minor injuries. Several wrecks involved pile-ups. Police say you should not go out unless you absolutely have to, and if you do, avoid overpasses because they become deadly with ice.

There were also two fatal wrecks. One of them happened on Idalou Road. Police say a man was traveling northeast on Idalou Road and lost control of his car. The car then hit a tree, crossed both lanes of oncoming traffic, and wound up on the other side of the road where the car's engine caught fire. The name of the man has not yet been released.

The other fatal accident happened inside Lubbock at Loop 289 and 66th Street.
