The alleged wreck happened in the 4500 block of Idalou road on Monday night and was first thought to be caused by icy road conditions. Police believed 24-year-old Larry McBrewer Jr was traveling northeast on the Idalou Highway and lost control of his Cadillac, hit a tree, crossed both lanes of oncoming traffic and wound up on the other side of the road where the car's engine caught fire.
According to Sergeant Tony Gibbin, the Lubbock Medical Examiners Officer ruled the injuries were not consistent with an auto accident. Lubbock Police Captain Ricky Cross says a Lubbock Pathologist noticed what appeared to be a gun shot wound on McBrewer's head during a routine autopsy.
The Lubbock Police Department is now investigating McBrewer's death as a possible homicide. Captain Cross says the police are wanting to talk to several people. If you have any information on the death of Larry McBrewer Jr police urge you to call the Lubbock Crime Line at (806) 741-1000 or Detective Chris Brunig (806) 775-2413.
