Teen leads authorities on chase after gas alleged theft

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A gas theft turned into a police chase covering two counties Sunday night.

The Garza County Sheriff's Office said the chase began about 10:20 p.m. when 18-year-old Joseph Rodriguez fled the Town and Country convenience store in Post, without paying for his gas, and almost hit a patrol car.

Garza County deputies and DPS troopers chased Rodriguez to Lubbock, where they flattened his tires with road spikes.

The chase ended about 30 minutes later, when Rodriguez's car crashed into a fence at Chaparral Motors, at 3rd Street and Avenue Q.

Rodriguez was treated for minor injuries and taken back to Garza County, where he will face charges.
