Section of Marsha Sharp Freeway opening to traffic

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - According to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), another section of the Marsha Sharp Freeway will open to traffic this week.

The traffic switch for the new main lanes of the freeway from Chicago Avenue to Quaker Avenue will take place over a 2-day period beginning Tuesday, June 30th. Both directions of travel will be placed on the new westbound paving while the eastbound roadway and eastbound bridge at Slide Road are under construction.

On Tuesday, June 30, westbound US 62/82 will be opened to 1 lane from Quaker Ave to Chicago Ave including the bridge over Slide Rd.  The following day, eastbound US 62/82 will be opened to 2 lanes from Belmont Ave to Quaker Ave including the Slide Rd bridge and the permanent eastbound exit ramp at the Grace Clinic.

These traffic changes are part of the $37 million Phase IIIB portion of the Marsha Sharp Freeway project; which is expected to complete later this year.
