LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A Lubbock native and former Texas Tech track star and her fiance have won NBC's TODAY throws a wedding contest.
Leigh and Nick - the former Olympic hopefuls with a unique story - captured the hearts of viewers during the 10th annual TODAY Throws a Wedding series, winning the opportunity to get married live on the show on July 15. Over the course of three weeks, the couple received over 66,000 votes from viewers.
But your job as fans and viewers of the TODAY show is not over. TODAY viewers will plan the winning finalists' wedding by texting and voting on TODAYshow.com for the couple's rings, the wedding gown, the attendants' attire and the honeymoon.
Ohio-born Nick and Texas-raised Leigh, first met in the same Olympic Development Program, where training was so intense, dating among athletes was strictly prohibited. They soon fell in love and when their relationship became too apparent to deny, Nick and Leigh were promptly kicked out of the program.
Five years later, the couple started competing again - but this time, for TODAY's wedding series. When not on Rockefeller Plaza, Leigh and Nick both work as assistant track coaches at Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio.
We will speak with Leigh and Nick today, and we will have their reaction tonight on NewsChannel 11 at 5, 6, and 10.
