Hard times for local farmers and their insurance agents

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - One agriculture insurer says the South Plains leads the nation in crop insurance claims.  Crop insurers are busy this month after recent severe weather destroyed some local cotton crops.  Armtech Insurance says this is a fairly severe loss year.

The season started with a drought, then hail storms, and later, excessive rain in some areas. "We've probably had in the neighborhood of around 3,000 to 4,000 cotton claims in this area," says Buckles Bryant, Armtech national claims manager. "So, we are very busy right now working lots of cotton claims."

Armtech has about 10,000 claims so far this season, and about half of those are in the state of Texas.
