Lubbock Man Confesses to Fatal Shooting on Idalou Road

A Lubbock murder investigation unraveled Friday with the arrest of a Lubbock man. This comes just four days after the case was thought to be a fatal traffic accident.

Twenty-two year-old Milton Coleman was charged with murder late Friday afternoon. Coleman is accused of shooting 24-year-old Larry McBrewer, Jr. in the head. Lubbock Assistant District Attorney Brian Kingston says Coleman shot McBrewer while McBrewer was driving. Police say that caused McBrewer to crash in the 4500 block of Idalou Road.

Police originally believed McBrewer died from the accident. But an autopsy revealed a gunshot wound to the head. It turns out the car McBrewer was driving was stolen. That led police to Coleman, the owner of the Cadillac.

"Hats off to Detective Bruenig and Detective Hodges," said Lubbock County Assistant District Attorney, Brian Kingston. "They worked all through Christmas and were able to back track using that car to find out who was the original owner."

Police are holding Coleman in the Lubbock County Jail on $100,000 bond.
