One person died and several others were injured in two separate traffic accidents Friday morning near Houston. The first accident happened in Fort Bend County. Police say two cars collided and one person was thrown through the windshield. That person died at the scene. EMS flew three others to local hospitals with unknown injuries.

A second accident involved a car and a big rig that collided in Harris County. Investigators say the impact was so strong that a four year-old girl, riding in her child seat, was ejected, and another 13 year-old girl was hanging out the car's back window. As of Friday night, the truck driver, the two girls, and their mother were all in critical condition.

President Bush and his wife Laura are back in Texas for a long weekend at their ranch near Crawford. The First Couple arrived Friday morning from Andrews Air Force Base. The Bush family had spent Christmas at Camp David.

The eruption of a volcano in Mexico is affecting people in Central Texas. The Popocatepetl Volcano, or Popo, southeast of Mexico City, erupted just before Christmas. Mexico's National Disaster Prevention Center says the eruption sent ash and soot more than one mile into the atmosphere. Strong winds carried the ash all the way to Central Texas. In fact, the white stuff has turned up from San Antonio to Austin.
