LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The very thing that helps the elderly walk could take the blame for a devastating fall. That's according to a new report from the CDC that says about 130 seniors end up in emergency rooms every day from falls linked to their walkers or canes.
The 6-year study looked at the records of more than 47,000 seniors treated for falls. It turns out that most of those falls involved walkers, particularly among older women. CDC officials are encouraging health professionals to spend more time with their clients in teaching them how to use a walker or cane properly.
