LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - It's estimated between 15,000 and 20,000 people gathered at Buffalo Springs Lake for the Friday night fireworks extravaganza. America's birthday candles are blasting off during the 50-minute show. Finding a spot inside the canyon was a hot commodity, upwards of more than an hour wait to get inside the front gates all to celebrate family, freedom and the Fourth.
Vehicles inched towards the gates at Buffalo Springs Lake drivers waited in a line that was backed up nearly to Loop 289 four miles. Drivers waited for more than an hour but say the wait was well worth it. They waited to swim, cook out, and even fish. Folks of all ages had different reasons for celebrating America's 233rd birthday.
"It's really a special day because I get to spend a lot of time with my family and friends. I just love it. It's the best day besides my birthday," said 10-year-old Jordan.
You can also catch fireworks over Mackenzie Park, Saturday after night fall.
