LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - They sold strawberry-lemonade for just fifty-cents a cup, but what they got was an invaluable lesson in charitable giving... and a whole lot of cash!

Hunter Bell, Carolina Cognasi and Dustin Zimmerman, are students at Lubbock's Preston Smith Elementary. For several weeks, they have operated a strawberry-lemonade stand Mondays around lunchtime.

"We thought it might be fun," said Cognasi, age 7. "And we wanted to help the Children's Home of Lubbock.

They wrapped up their month long campaign Monday afternoon, but after their stand closed - several Lubbock area businesses stepped up to match what the kids had raised. Those businesses include Hub City Plumbing, V.E.B Scrubs, and Airco, Inc.

The children will present an $868 check to the Children's Home of Lubbock in the coming days.
