Daren Hays joins baseball broadcast booth full-time

LUBBOCK, TX - Texas Tech Director of Baseball Operations Daren Hays will move to the broadcast booth as the color analyst on a full-time basis beginning in 2010, a move that was announced today by Red Raider Sports Properties, a property of Learfield Sports.  He replaces Matt Miller.

Hays provided color commentary on the road last season but will become the permanent analyst beginning with the season opener in February.  He will be alongside Robert Giovannetti who begins his third season as the voice of Red Raider Baseball.  Hays has an extensive baseball background as both a player and a coach and is the oldest son of Larry Hays, the NCAA's fourth winningest coach.  He joined the Tech baseball program as an assistant coach in 2000 and changed roles in 2008 to become the director of operations.

Texas Tech is beginning the first year of a partnership with Learfield Sports which is being run locally by Red Raider Sports Properties.  The new flagship station for all Texas Tech Sports, including baseball, will be KTTU - Double T 104.3 FM which is scheduled to go on air later this month.  All 56 regular-season games will be heard live locally on the flagship station (Double T 104.3 FM).
