Federal Screening Regulations Deadline Looms

The deadline for all airports to comply with federal screening regulations is New Year's Day, but at Lubbock International Airport, all the necessary security machines are already in place. Passengers flying out of Lubbock International Airport can expect to have each piece of their luggage opened, hand checked, and swabbed with a special piece of cloth.

Security workers then use a machine to check for bomb residue on that cloth. A spokesman for the Lubbock Airport said passengers should leave their checked bags unlocked, so the screeners can inspect each bag quickly.
