LUBBOCK, Texas (July 7, 2009) - Lubbock Christian University men's basketball head coach John Copeland has announced a pair of junior college transfers to the 2009-2010 incoming class. Sean Jones of Temple College and LaTroy Taylor of San Diego City College are transferring to the Chaps program.
Jones is a 6'7" forward from College Station, Texas, who spent the past two seasons with Temple College. He appeared in 30 games last season and averaged 8 points and 4.5 assists per game. Jones ranked second on the team in blocks with 30. He averaged 3.7 rebounds and 5.3 points as a freshman with Temple. Prior to heading to Temple, Jones prepped at A&M Consolidated, where he was First Team All-Brazos Valley honors as a senior. He averaged 13.2 points and 10.8 rebounds as a senior to lead Consolidated to the 13-5A title. Jones participated for the North squad in the 2007 Texas High School Coaches Association All-Star Basketball game.
Taylor played 25 games with San Diego City College last season and averaged 3 points a game and shot 54% from the field (27/50). The 6'4" guard is from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He attended Washington High School, which is the same school Latrell Sprewell attended.
The two recruits join Trinity Christian's Tyler Kennedy as announced recruits for the 2009-2010 incoming class. Both Jones and Taylor come to LCU classified as juniors. LCU is aiming to build off a 14-16 record, which closed for a second consecutive season in the second round of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament.
