LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A two-time fugitive from Lubbock authorities was back behind bars Wednesday night. Deputies from the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office arrested 26-year-old Ernest Zavala Wednesday afternoon, and his capture is caught on tape.
"We've been looking for him for about two months, got information that he was back in town today," Lubbock County Sheriff's Sergeant Mark Lunsford said. A tip led authorities to a home along Avenue A Wednesday. Coincidentally that home is right across the street from NewsChannel 11 where photojournalist John Berry captured the arrest on camera.
"We did find him hiding inside the residence. He is wanted on multiple felony warrants and the two females lied about him being in the house, and they will go to jail for hindering apprehension," Lunsford said.
This is Zavala's second time on NewsChannel 11's Most Wanted. Authorities arrested him a year ago connected to a home burglary ring. He bonded out, and then last month authorities connected him to another burglary, and police says he could be connected to even more crimes.
"Thanks to NewsChannel 11 and tips from the public we were able to apprehend somebody that should be in jail, and apparently had committed several other misdemeanor assaults in the last couple days," Lunsford said.
