A family road trip turned tragic Monday, when a collision killed a 17-year-old girl. The Daniel family was on their way to Midland when they took a wrong turn looking for Highway 87. Sergeant Ronnie Sowell says they ended up going east on Slaton Highway when 53-year-old Glenda Daniel ran a red light at the intersection with I-27. That's when a truck driven by 61-year-old Frank Doke t-boned the car in the passenger side.
Seventeen year-old Melanie Daniel died at the scene. Fifty-four year-old Lawrence Senior and 25-year-old Lawrence Junior were both treated and released from UMC. Glenda is listed in satisfactory condition. Frank Doke was not injured.
