In some areas of town, winds were traveling as fast at 60 miles per hour. Tumbleweeds rolled through Lubbock fields by the dozens. City street crews were called in to work to help clear the streets. Some workers say they picked up tumbleweeds as tall as four feet. Out on Avenue L, tumbleweeds were falling from the bridge onto 4th St. causing traffic problems.
"It can get very dangerous, and that's why we're out here making sure drivers are safe," says street worker Eloy Moya.
Moya says that crews will be on call throughout Wednesday night if they need to continue cleaning up. If you see anything blocking the streets, he encourages you to call the Lubbock Police Department.
On a side note, the high winds also caused several false alarms across the city and the county. Some buildings have reported wind damages as well.
