A Lubbock County farmer has started to bury the 130 pigs that died over the weekend. The pigs were found at a farm east of Lubbock International Airport.
NewsChannel 11 spoke with the man taking care of the pigs Thursday and he tells us about half of them have been removed from the barn. The State Animal Health Inspector says the pigs died of starvation, but the farmer in charge of the pigs strongly disagrees. He says the pigs came down with an infectious respiratory illness that spread quickly, despite his attempts to treat the hogs.
The total loss is estimated at between $5,000 and $7,000.
