The Abernathy City Hall is a third of the way demolished, and it looks like for now it will stay that way. Demolition was supposed to start Monday, but the city got a jump start on it Friday morning. Midway through the destruction, Abernathy resident, Jana Grimsley, filed an injunction to stop the demolition. She says the citizens should have the right to vote whether the building should be torn down. The injunction stopped the demolition until a judge can decide if Abernathy followed the law in starting on Friday. That ruling is expected January 17th.

Four people were injured in a accident at 4th Street and Fulton Monday morning. Police say the driver of the black car hit a maroon Lumina while making a left turn. The impact then sent the Lumina into the blue car. In the end, EMS took the driver of the black car to the hospital with a broken ankle. Three others were treated for minor injuries at the scene.

A Lubbock soldier wounded overseas two weeks ago is doing better. Kevin Ward will be returning to Lubbock when his condition improves. Kevin is a U.S. Army Ranger and was injured while doing work for Operation Enduring Freedom. Sandra and Ron Ward say their son says it is only because of God that he is still alive. Kevin is a graduate of Monterey High School and Texas Tech. His recovery time will determine when he returns to Lubbock.
