LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - It appears the air has been taken out of Councilman Paul Beane's idea to ban helium billons in Lubbock. This ordinance will now die after passing on the first reading.
Councilman Todd Klein has since dropped his support for the measure after receiving "new information" and "public reaction." Now some may criticize Councilman Klein for not researching the topic better or gauging the public's feelings prior to his first vote, but consider this: on behalf of the many citizens I heard from who thought a balloon ban was ridiculous, I would like to thank Councilman Klein for having the guts to admit he was wrong.
This ordinance was silly at best and it stood to keep hurting families from a real healing opportunity, and I'm speaking from personal experience. So onward and upward, so to speak, and like I said last week, let's get to work on the real issues facing our community.
