LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - There is a new way medication is being delivered in hospitals. Barcode technology, same thing you see at your local grocery store has found its way into hospitals. It's called Bedside Medication Verification (BMV) and it uses barcode scanning at the patient's bedside to provide immediate confirmation that the right person is getting the right medication.
"You scan the barcode and it brings up the medication that is attached to that patient and you scan the medication - and if that medication is not on the patient's profile, it will give the nurse a warning," said hospital nurse Tamica Francois.
The time and amount of each dose are streamlined into a system so everything is saved and available at the bedside.
