It's been in the news for months, and Tuesday, Larry Combest made it official.
The District 19 Representative sent a letter of resignation to Governor Perry. In it, Combest thanks his supporters and calls his service to Lubbock's District the most rewarding professional experience of his life. However, the congressman says at this point in his life, his focus needs to be more on family.
Combest has served Lubbock and District 19 since 1984. He will step down on May 31st. Governor Perry is expected to call for a special election when the legislative session begins on January 14th. So far, five people have filed to run for the office.
