LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Lubbock has a connection to leadership changes at the Texas Department of Public Safety. DPS offered Steve McCraw the top job in Texas law enforcement Friday. Mcgraw is an FBI retiree and native to El Paso.
Barring anything strange he'll pick up where Interim Director Lamar Beckworth leaves off. Beckworth is a former resident of Lubbock and Brownfield. For nine years he used to be the Major for the Lubbock Office of DPS. Beckworth made Texas history as the first African-American to lead the DPS. He became the Interim Director on May 6th, the day after Colonel Stan Clark abruptly resigned.
