LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Some folks went by the South Plains Mall Saturday, not to shop, but to help protect their cars. Participants registered with H.E.A.T. or Help End Auto Theft.

When you register with the program, they put a sticker on your car so officers anywhere in the state can pull your car over and check ownership anytime the car is out on the road between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. or if it's crossing into Mexico.

"We feel like this is a deterrent. It's a layered approach," said Crime Prevention Coordinator, Kat Anderson. You can register your car anytime at the H.E.A.T.task force office at 916 Main Street, suite 205. For more information call (806) 775-1669.
