LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The Texas Tech Susan Polgar Institute for Chess Excellence (SPICE) will celebrate the opening of the TTU SPICE Chess park with a ribbon cutting on Monday.
The chess park, funded by an anonymous donor, is the first dedicated U.S. chess park at a university. The park is located between the Student Union Building and the University Library at 15th Street and Akron Avenue.
Along with funding the chess park, the anonymous donation of $320,000 is being used for scholarships to attract chess players to Texas Tech.
