NewsChannel 11's Community Coverage Tour preview of Idalou

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - NewsChannel 11 crews are on the road again, and Monday marks the start of our Community Coverage Tour.

All week long, we will be broadcasting from cities across the South Plains. NewsChannel 11's Nicole Pesecky previews what will be happening Monday night at our first stop in Idalou.

NewsChannel 11's 6 and 10 newscasts will be broadcast live from the Idalou football field.

The first question is, how will we move our news studio to Idalou? Here's the plan, in just a few hours our crews will arrive at the Wild Cat's football field, and transform this quiet playing area into a live TV studio.

We'll bring in lights and cables with our live truck to bring you Karin, Abner, Pete and John on NewsChannel 11 at 6 and 10.

Tonight, we're featuring two Idalou stars. One singer who was nominated for a Grammy, has 18 different albums and when she's not on tour, she spends her time in Idalou working at a local Mexican restaurant.

Also, this country music star was born and raised here in Idalou. We sit down with his family who say he wants to eventually make his way back to his hometown for good.

And we'll take a look back at Idalou's history and how the city got it's name.

We talk with a banker that's impacting the local economy, and a firefighter who has volunteered nearly six decades of his life to this town.

We will walk you thru Apple Country, on of the few places on the South Plains where you can pick your own apples.

You don't see many of these around West Texas, but here in Idalou, it's another story because this company is one of the largest providers of it's product in the state of Texas.

Come out to Idalou and stick around in between newscasts for music and food.

United Supermarkets is providing free food, Pepsi products will be handed out and ABC bank will provide bottled water. We're not forgetting dessert, Blue Bell is giving away their famous ice cream.

There will be an acoustic performance from Texas 114, a country band. The Idalou Wildcats will be taking on Team NewsChannel 11 in 7 on 7 football. By the way, the Wildcats just won the West Texas Aerials, so good luck to the news crew.

In the meantime, you can head to our website for more information on the city of Idalou and what we will be doing here, and the other towns on the tour.

So make plans to come out and join us tonight, right here at the Wildcat football field.

Here's a look at the Community Coverage Schedule:
