LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Investigators from the Texas Railroad Commission continue to investigate the large sinkhole discovered in an oil field near Denver City.
The sinkhole, measuring 76 feet x 70 feet x 48 feet, was discovered by a worker late Monday on oil and gas land owned by Occidental Permian Limited. One well was damaged by the sudden collapse, and the rest were shut down as a precaution.
Reportedly, sinkholes like this one are common, especially in the vicinity of oil and gas operations. Experts say once they form, typically they do not get much bigger. However, it all depends on the stability of the ground surrounding it.
