Trailer Full of Cotton Burst into Flames

Littlefield Firefighters had their hands full Mondays afternoon, when a trailer full of cotton burst into flames. It happened about 3:30 in the afternoon on Highway 84 about three miles west of Anton. The truck driver pulling the trailer. David Gonzales, told NewsChannel 11 he saw smoke coming from the cotton so he pulled over. By the time he had unhooked the truck the cotton was on fire.

Firefighters battled the flames for about half an hour before it was under control. Gonzales says the cotton was freshly pressed from the gin and probably ignited because it was so hot. No one was injured in the incident.
