Hazmat team responds to mysterious tool box filled with chemicals

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Crews cleared the scene just before 5 p.m. Monday along the 5400 block of North Avenue P in Lubbock. That's where a railroad crew found a tool box with mysterious chemicals inside. The Lubbock Fire Department Hazmat Team responded to the scene along with Lubbock Sheriff's deputies. But it turns out, officials say nothing dangerous appeared to have been released into the air.

Lubbock Fire Department Captain Chris Hixson says it appears someone did not know how to dispose of the chemicals and put them on the side of the road. "The things that were in the tool box were all individually sealed containers. They were powders with the exception of liquid mercury," says Captain Hixson. He says to contact city waste, and they will instruct you on how to properly dispose of any chemicals.
