LAMB COUNTY, TX (KCBD) - The latest in a murder investigation spanning two counties - the medical examiner's office is performing an autopsy to confirm the identity of a dead body in Lamb County.

Currently, 51-year-old Mickey Birchfield and 53-year-old Bradford Halderman are both in custody and charged with murder in the case. Around 8 p.m. Friday night, a Littlefield woman told deputies that Birchfield came to her house and confessed to beating and possibly killing a man reported to be his roommate.

Hale County sheriff's officers later found the body of a white man in a 6 foot deep bar ditch along a county road near Cotton Center. He had been severely beaten. Witnesses also reported a vehicle dragging a human body in nearby Hale County. Lamb County Sheriff Gary Maddox said the man likely died after a fight with the suspects before he was dragged.

If you have any information that could help investigators you are asked to please call the Lamb County Sheriff's Office at (806) 385-7900.
