Lubbock post offices make possible closing list

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Could your local post office be closing? That's what millions of Americans are wondering as the Postal Service releases a list of nearly 700 offices under consideration for closing; and two Lubbock locations are on that list - the Freedom Station located at Avenue L and 50th, and the downtown location at 4th and Avenue L.

There are over three dozen offices in Texas that also made the list. Even with a two cent increase in stamp prices in May, the Postal Service expects to lose almost seven billion dollars this fiscal year, as email cuts into its business.

Recently the Postmaster General asked Congress for permission to reduce mail delivery to just five days a week. No closings are expected before September 30, the end of the current fiscal year.
