The Boy Scouts of America honored a special guest Tuesday night at their annual "Good Scout" Dinner. The South Plains Council of the Boy Scouts of America honored former Texas Governor Preston Smith.
The Governor was selected as this year's honoree for exemplifying the principles of scouting, and for the way he conducts his public and private business in a fair and evenhanded manner.
"As a former governor, I've received many awards. But this one tonight is different to me, because this is from people that I grew up with who were scouts," said Smith. "And really I can truthfully say they're some of the finest people I've known."
Governor Smith has been involved with the scouts since his son Mickey became active in the program.
Previous honorees include senator Robert Duncan, Delbert McDougal and Lady Raider Coach Marsha Sharp.
