SNYDER, TX (KCBD) - Visitation services for 7-year-old twin boys were held Wednesday evening in Snyder.
Justin and Ryan Dillard drowned in Lake J.B. Thomas Sunday afternoon. Authorities recovered them about two hours after they were reported missing. Investigators tell NewsChannel 11 the boy's father was sitting on the tailgate of a pick-up, while the boys were swimming off-shore, when he lost sight of them.
Texas Parks and Wildlife District Captain Bill Jones tells us the boys were not strong swimmers and were not wearing life jackets. "You have to be vigilant about watching your kids at all times, and the problem with that is I don't know that anybody can keep an eye on somebody 100% of the time, hence the life jacket. It gives you that little bit of help when they get there, and also, when you're on a lake you've got to remember it's not always a smooth bottom going down. You don't know where those drop-offs are. You take one step, and you're under water," Jones said.
Funeral services for Justin and Ryan Dillard will be held Thursday morning. They begin at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Snyder.
