LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - One person was hospitalized in critical condition Saturday night after a car collided with an ATV in northwest Lubbock County. The Department of Public Safety tells NewsChannel 11 that the driver of the ATV was airlifted to Covenant Medical Center following the collision at 11:40 a.m. Saturday.

The vehicles collided near County Road 1600 F.M. 1294 near Shallowater. Authorities tell us Anna Valverde was thrown from the ATV several feet. Investigators say she was not wearing a helmet. The driver of the car was not injured. Authorities say that is an uncontrolled intersection. Police say Valverde suffered internal injuries, but is suspected to survive.

When preparing for a possible emergency situation, it's best to think first about the basics of survival: fresh water, food, clean air and warmth.
