This week inspectors had plenty on their plate as they ventured into the kitchens of almost 60 city and county food establishments. We start with the schools and what inspectors found there. All four of this week's schools are in the same district, but their report cards are not the same. Here's a look at this edition of Food for Thought.
This week's report card comes from Shallowater ISD, starting at Shallowater Elementary at 1106 avenue J. Zero critical violations were found making them a Food for Thought Top Performer. Also on the Top Performing list...Shallowater Middle School at 1100 Avenue K the cafeteria there also earns a perfect score this week.
Now on to Shallowater High School at 1100 Avenue K. That's where one critical violation was discovered. The horizontal cooling unit was not properly working, the temperature at the time of inspection was 60 degree and it must be 45 degrees or colder.
Finally Shallowater Intermediate at 1200 Avenue K gets one critical violation. The vertical warmer was not maintaining product temperature--at the time of inspection, it was at 120 degrees, it must be 140 degrees or hotter. The report shows the violation was corrected on site.
There are no Low Performerming restaurants this time and the are four Top Performing restaurants. Let's start with out featured Top Performer. They call themselves America's drive in, and this week , they're on a roll. Sonic at 1901 34th St. earns a perfect score, making them a Food for Thought Top Performer. "We do check ups and we do temperature, we have temperature logs and we do them you know, 11, 2 at 5 and at 8 and we do make sure it's done on a daily routine," says Manager Amy Vasquez.
Vasquez says the whole staff knows exactly what to do, so when Sonic gets hopping, they're ready for the rush, and they want their customers to know they can always expect quality. "It's great service, it's fast, it's good."
Next on the list is Plains Meat Market at 812 Avenue G. They also receive a Top Performing certificate. Then it's Rise N Shine at 7801 University, where inspectors also found no critical violations.
Rounding out the list of Top Performers is the meat department at United Supermarket at 8201 Quaker, they also earn a perfect score.
