Cause of 20 ducks' death in Lubbock explained

By James Clark | email

LUBBOCK TX, (KCBD)- Nearly 20 ducks were found dead Sunday at Crow Park.   Their bodies were scattered around the playa lake in Crow Park off 91st street.   Experts say the cause appears to be bacteria and is very common.

Although we haven't seen it until now in Lubbock, it has been found just outside the city several times.  David Haukos, wildlife biologist says, "It appears to be a mild case of avian botulism a sickness that ducks get this time of year."

Experts say the outbreak should ease within a few days.   Avian botulism is not harmful to humans.
