LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Officials continue to investigate the homicide of a 65-year-old Dawson County man. Willie Butler's body was discovered by family members Monday afternoon in Lamesa. After two days of trying to get in touch with Butler, family members stopped by his house in the 1300 block of Southeast Canyon Street only to find him lying on the floor unresponsive. Family members called 911 and Lamesa Police and EMS responded and immediately determined foul play might be involved.
Crime tape was removed Tuesday afternoon around the same time Lamesa Police Chief Richard Garcia classified the investigation as a homicide. Chief Garcia says Butler suffered multiple wound from a sharp object to his head. Investigators believe Butler could have died two days ago. Family members describe Butler as a fun and caring man who loved life. They are searching for answers as to why this happened.
Meanwhile Lamesa Police, Texas Rangers and the Dawson County District Attorney's Office are searching for who could have killed Willie Butler. There are no suspects at this time. If you have any information, local law enforcement and Butler's family encourage you to call the Dawson County Crime Line at 806-872-TIPS (8477).
