LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The ever-present Kudzu vine may do more than clutter yards and highways, researchers say it could someday help manage binge drinking.
A study of rodents by researchers at the University of California, San Francisco, shows a compound extracted from the vine reduces the amount of alcohol the rats drink and even prevents them from a relapse.
The study shows that when someone drinks alcohol, this Kudzu compound triggers nausea as a side effect, which makes them want to drink less, or nothing at all.
