LEVELLAND, TX (KCBD) - NewsChannel 11 broke the story on NewsChannel 11 at 5 that a state district judge was asked to remove Hockley County Sheriff David Kinney from office. Since then we have learned that the judge signed an order of suspension against Kinney, effectively removing him from office.
Court papers state this suspension is due to what the state calls corrupt and retaliatory practices. It also says Kinney filed a false report on fees collected by Kinney's office, and incompetence in hiring and supervising sheriff's office employees.
The Hockley County Attorney's office requested Kinney's removal on behalf of the state of Texas. The complaint also asks that the judge appoint Kevin Davis as an interim sheriff. Davis is an investigator with the Hockley County D.A.'s office.
