Look what they're doing at the Scottsdale Health Care Hospitals in Arizona. When you look into the emergency room waiting room, you may find no one is waiting. That's because officials are posting wait times on the internet and also in the waiting room.
Nancy Hicks, the Emergency Services System Director, says "Every 3 minutes it updates, because we know in three minutes, things change."
Jerome Hanrahan, a patient there, says he likes the system. "I think being able to know that you have the availability of predicting how much wait time you're going to get before you ever get to the hospital, that's a good feature."
Of course, people with urgent needs, like a heart attack or severe trauma, are advised to go to the nearest hospital no matter what the wait time. But for those with less urgent matters, like a child's ear ache for example, posting wait times on the web is already helping families in Scottsdale choose when to go for the shortest wait.
