Hockley County Sheriff responds after being removed from office

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Former Hockley County Sheriff David Kinney tells the Associated Press he was shocked when he received notice of his suspension Thursday afternoon. Kinney also denied any wrong doing. He's accused of incompetence, filing a false financial report and a wrongful arrest.

The Hockley County Attorney tells NewsChannel 11 this is the culmination of an investigation that began shortly after federal investigators broke up an alleged drug ring in July. Authorities charged several people in that drug bust, including two Hockley County Sheriff's Deputies, with mutliple crimes.

A hearing on Kinney's removal is set for August 24th in Levelland.
